How to - Instagram (Part.2)

How to - Upload pictures to Instagram

Uploading your Pictures to Instagram

The whole point of Instagram is to share pictures, so the camera function is pretty important. At the bottom of the screen you can tap on the camera icon (highlighted below) where you're able to take a new picture or select a photo to share from your own camera roll. After choosing the picture you want to upload you are then able to add effects which are called 'filters', boarders and finally a caption before sharing.

Take a picture

Once you're on the camera section, you can either take a new picture or upload one you have taken prior. I would always recommend uploading a picture you've already taken as it is just easier.

- The grid, which is a tool similar to the rule of thirds that photographers often use that helps with the composition of your picture.

- If you're uploading a picture that you've previously taken on your camera, tap the box in the bottom left corner and all of your pictures will appear.

- You are also able to switch from camera to video. Instagram has restricted the length of a video that you're able to upload, which is 3 to 15 seconds long.

- Once you're happy, select the picture you've decided to upload and click 'Next'. Now this is where the real fun of Instagram begins...

Edit & style

This area of Instagram is where you have the freedom to edit, style, blend, sharpen and more to your image. This is where you will find all of your different 'filters' to make your picture look even better.

Try out a few different filters and see which ones you like the best. Over time you will develop your own individual style of filtering and editing your pictures, this creates a consistency for your Instagram profile and allows your photos to flow nicely.

Style settings

- After deciding on which filter you think looks best for your picture, you can then visit the 'Settings'. (Access this by the spanner icon located above your picture.)

- Settings allow you to edit your picture even further and in more detail. You're able to increase and decrease aspects such as the brightness, contrast, saturation, shadows and more.

- If you are anything like me, then this will take you a while. You might even have multiple copies of the same picture which is just edited differently by the end of it. However, once you've finished editing click 'Next' in the top right hand corner, this will take you to your uploading page.

Uploading your photo

The final stage of posting your picture is where you can do the following;
- Write your own personalised caption
- Tag friends & family
- Insert your location
- Share on your other social platforms.

Hashtags

Hashtags are one of the fundamental aspects of Instagram, which I would highly recommend getting your head around as soon as possible. Hashtag's are how you get discovered by other Instagram users. They also help you find people who posted similar pictures as you.

Using my example above, I chose to upload a picture of Brighton train station. Therefore using #train #Brighton #city, helps other Instagram users who are searching for pictures of Brighton or trains etc.

To start of with think of hashtags of being more simply describing what's in your picture. If you upload a picture of a cesear salad then you might hashtag things like; #healthyeating #salad #fitness #healthy #lunch.

Using this aspect of Instagram results in your pictures receiving more 'likes' and eventually more followers to enjoy your pictures.

Hopefully this was useful to you guys!
Enjoy Instagram-ing!

How to - Instagram...

How to - Instagram Basics

This is the first of my new 'How To -'  blog articles series. Starting off with the basics of Instagram, running through the different aspects including;

- Home
- Discover
- Activity
- Profile.

If you enjoy visually beautiful things, art, culture and connecting with people then I would highly recommend Instagram. Hopefully this will help all you Instagram-newbies get involved and share your pictures on one of my favourite social media channels.

Home

Your home icon takes you to a feed, where whenever anyone who you 'follow' posts a picture, this is where it will show up. By showing appreciation to someone's picture, you can simple double tap on the picture to 'like' it and if you want to write something specific you can 'comment' by using the comment button under each pictures caption.

Discover

Discover section is where you can find new pictures and users to like and follow. Using the search tab at the top you are able to search for specific users, however you need to make sure you have the exact username otherwise instagram won't be able to find them.

Discover Photos

Finding and discovering new photos is one of my favourite things to do on instagram.

Instagram has made this section of constantly refreshed pictures based on the people you follow or pictures you like. It's a great way of finding and connecting with people who have similar taste and style to you.

If you are scrolling and find a picture you like the look of you can just tap on that picture and it will take you to the profile of the person that has uploaded it. You may like other pictures they've posted and choose to follow them.

Discover People

This part allows you to find new people to follow. Instagram uses your other social medias accounts such as Facebook or Twitter, in order to find people that you already know who use Instagram. It also can use your email to find contacts from your address book.

If you want to follow a contact that instagram finds, simple click on the plus icon and you will be following them.

Activity

The activity part is where you can see who has liked or commented on your posts and you can see any new followers etc.

Your Profile

Your profile is where you can see how many posts you have, followers and how many people you are following. Here is where you can view all of your photos and videos you have already uploaded in either a collage or a list view, you can change your settings and edit your profile.

1. This shows you how many pictures you've posted onto Instagram, your 'followers' are the amount of people that can see your posts and 'following' is how many people's pages you are following.

2. You can change the way you view your collection of posts. You can either have it's default settings of a grid layout, or if you want to have a closer look and see how many likes and comments you have you can view your pictures in a list view which shows one picture at a time.

3. If someone on Instagram has uploaded a picture with you in it and they 'tag' you, this is where you can view it. You are able to untag yourself as well once on the profile of the picture source.

4. Change your settings here including finding people to follow, report a problem, Instagram help centre etc.

5. Edit your profile allows you to change the following details; the name that appears on your page & username, password, your bio sections and you are also able to upload or change your current profile picture. You can also view/edit your privacy settings here in order to make your profile private or open for everyone to see.

6. This is your Photo Map. When you click on this your photo map icon, this will appear. It shows you and your followers all the different places you've uploaded pictures from. If you don't want this on your profile then refer to no.5 'edit your profile button where you can change your privacy settings.

Hopefully this has helped some of you with the basics of Instagram and how it works..I will be posting a follow up post, talking about uploading your photos with using the different filters and making your photographs looking really cool and the aspect of using hashtags to gain followers and likes.

2015, My New Year Resolutions

My New Year's Resolutions

http://holidayswishes.net/full-hd-wallpaper-for-new-year-with-bananas-and-minions-2015/
I am not normally one for new years resolution as I am forever coming up with them and it gets to January 15th and I find myself enjoying a Cadburys Twirl in the back of a friends car. Last year, was in fact the only year when I made a resolution and actually stuck to it and that was giving up smoking after 5 years of doing so. To this day I am nicotine free, thanks to VIP's Electronic Cigarette

This year I wanted to come up with a few that I am hoping to stick too. Some people seem to have hundreds but I feel if you have too many you are just setting yourself up for a fail. So let me know your new years resolution and if you've stuck by them if not there is still time and hopefully mine might inspire you...

1) Gym

Of course one of mine will be the dreaded gym. To be honest I am actually a fan of the gym...once I'm actually there. It really does make you feel better, realising all those 'happy hormones' in your body. Especially after all the Christmas festivities and eating a lot, I 100% will be getting back to the gym and drinking plenty protein shakes. Getting a big weekly, monthly, yearly..whatever planner either in the form of an App or a big board on your bedroom wall is a really great way of keeping track of your progress and keeping on top of your routine. If you aren't dedicated and easily procrastinated, I would recommend making a pre-devised plan for your workouts.

2) Money

Myself, being a student it obviously is hard to save and even just in live without money. So my second resolution is attempt to save at least £50 a month till I go back to university in September. I've used countless apps to track my budget and keep my transactions monitored but I just eventually stop using them. However, one that really is really good and super easy to use is an app called 'Spending'. I would recommend having a look around on the Apple store, they have some great free apps on offer.

3) Travel

Christmas | Las Vegas | 2013 |
When I was younger my parents took me to a lot of places and travel to fantastic countries but I always felt like I was too young to appreciate architect and landscapes. Now in 2015, I'll be 21st year and for my birthday I hopefully will be going away somewhere amazing and I also have plans to go away with my other half with her family to Turkey, which will be amazing. Here are a few snaps of some of my favourite places I've visited recently...

Hotel for 2 and a Happy New Year

Z Hotel in Soho London...

If you are planning on having a weekend or even just a night in London and struggling on where to stay, I would definitely recommend Z Hotels - affordable, central and seriously brilliant staff. Find out what I got up to for New Year's Eve, a review and a look inside our room for the night...
http://www.thezhotels.com/z-soho

So my girlfriend decided to surprise me for Christmas, by booking a hotel in Soho for us both a couple of days after Christmas. I have to say we have become fan girls of hotels it's almost an addiction for us. It all started a year or so ago when we were out in Brighton for drinks with some friends and Shaz had just been paid so we spontaneously booked a room at Travel lodge. It started as a once in a while-type-thing, and then progressed to us finding new hotels around Brighton and Sussex to stay at. There was one week where I came back from University to visit her, we ended up spending 4/5 days in a row at different hotels. However, we have never stayed in London one, so you can imagine I was particularly excited about this one!

The Room...

The room was smaller than anticipated but if your in London that's what you should expect. However, I thought with the space that they had there wasn't anything I would change about the room.

Room includes:

- Flat screen TV
- Wet room bathroom
- Hair dryer
- Coffee & Tea with Kettle
- Double bed

Cheese and unlimited wine

At 5pm the hotel put a beautiful spread of unlimited cheese and wine for the guests which was amazing! The wine had a wide variety of rosé and white wines.

The restaurant was a quiet intimate room with booths and a long wooden table in the middle with christmas lights in the windows and candles on the table. The safe were nothing but pleasant with talk of everybody's New Year Eve plans on their lips.

In the evening we ventured out on the town had a look around the different clothes stores and visited some of our favourite bars around Soho and Piccadilly. Overall was a great way to spend New Year's Eve!!
